ABOUT THE CURATOR:
Sheila Milon is a forth-year at Dartmouth College, where she studies Anthropology, History, Middle Eastern Studies, Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, along with International Studies. During her past term, she enrolled in Professor Roger Ulrich's Classics Course, titled "Ancient Greek and Roman Engineering and Technology," which was co-taught by Professor Margaratha Kramer and Teacher's Assistant (TA) and graduate student, Thomas Rover. The hybrid course (taught both remotely and in-person) learned about architraves, Trajan's column, harbor construction, aqueducts, spoke wheels, bridges (such as the Rhine), and a topic of Sheila's particular interest: B/R Figure Pottery. Sheila possesses some experience with ceramic pottery and was fascinated by the beauty of ancient potters, in addition to their mastery of firing processes despite lack of access to thermometers. Sheila curated the following website full of resources ranges from blogposts, scanned images, links to video tutorials, visual depictions of vessels, and an interactive study tool for her CLST 12.02 final project out of pure interest in delving deeper into artists and their preferred characteristics and artistic choices. She hopes future students will browse the website and enjoy learning about beautiful inscriptions and painting techniques. She owes her interest to Professor/Dr. Ulrich, who served as a mentor and point-person throughout the development of this project and the overall course.
